Abstract

This study aimed to investigate factors that negatively influence the entrepreneurial capacity of women pieceworker in Tehsil Katlong, District Mardan of Pakistan. For this purpose, three villages including Hodigram, Mayaar and Katigarhai were purposively selected as our study locale. A total of 75 home based women pieceworker who were actively engaged in sewing garments, blanket making and carpet weaving were identified and accessed at different time and places. This study was tailored to investigate the sociocultural, economic and administrative hardships of women in the production and marketing process of their hand craft business. Lack of capital, titled assets, access to market and non availability of credit facility were frequently reported by the study participants. Besides, some administrative factors such as training facility, assistantship and isolation from the mainstream business network were also reported as potential factors.
