Abstract

The study explores how subdued resistance and subtle defiance are portrayed in Rahman’s selected short stories. Rahman’s stories are significant in shaping the passive acts of resistance and defiance that ultimately lead to revolutionary change in society. The current investigation offers a fresh perspective on how covert resistance can catalyze radical change in society. Through textual and thematic analysis of the short narratives, applying the postulates derived from James’s theory of resistance, and examining the forms and patterns of subdued resistance, this study emphasizes how these actions led to significant revolutions in individuals and society. Moreover, the research posited Rahman's short stories as a counter-narrative, cross-examining prevailing literary works that favored explicit methods of effecting change. The results suggest that exploring subdued resistance in literature reveals its significant role in societal change, encouraging further research into its impact across cultural and interdisciplinary contexts.
